The Foundation can only make grants to ‘qualified donees’ – these are, in most cases, registered Canadian charities. To learn more about this requirement, click here.
All applicants must have adopted the Code of Ethical Fundraising and Financial Accountability designed by Imagine Canada (formerly the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy). You can obtain more information about this requirement by clicking here.
The Foundation does not consider applications from charities that are primarily involved in health, education, recreation, the arts, cultural activities, environmental initiatives or religious activities. Nor will the Foundation accept applications from organizations primarily funded through the tax base such as school boards, universities or colleges, health authorities and child-welfare authorities, or band councils. These organizations may be able to partner with eligible charities for the purposes of submitting an application but can not be the applicant organization.
The Foundation’s primary funding area is Alberta and Saskatchewan. The Foundation will consider selected applications from charities outside of this geographic region providing the application has significant benefit for charities in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
