Program Details

There are two streams of funding available under the Foundation’s bursary funding program.

The Muttart Bursary program is open to registered charities working in the area of social services or early childhood education and care in Alberta or Saskatchewan.  The aim of the Muttart Bursary program is to increase the competency of the charity’s staff members and key volunteers in the areas of programming, administration, or management.  Grants are usually awarded in amount of less than $1,000 to cover tuition or registration costs of courses, programs or other training opportunities.  Courses may include:

  • Program related courses or training;
  • Administrative courses or training; or
  • Management courses or training.

Bursaries cover course, program or workshop fees, not incidental or travel expenses.

Generally, bursaries are awarded in amounts less than $1,000, but in exceptional circumstances larger grants may be made.  On grants exceeding $1,500 additional conditions, such as return-service commitment or a plan to disseminate learning from the training within or outside the applicant charity, apply.

The Leadership Bursary Program is open to registered charities working in the area of social services and early childhood education and care in Alberta or Saskatchewan.  The aim of the Leadership Bursary program is to increase the capacity of senior staff, management staff, or persons serving in a senior staff capacity within these charities to contribute now, or in the near future, to leadership within or across organizations, or enhance leadership competence in key policy areas related to the charity or sub-sector’s work.  Courses may include:

  • Leadership courses or programs;
  • Management courses or programs;
  • Governance programs or training.

Bursaries cover course or program fees, not incidental or travel expenses.

Generally, bursaries are awarded in amounts less than $2,500, but in exceptional circumstances larger grants may be made.  On grants exceeding $1,500 additional conditions, such as return-service commitment or a plan to disseminate learning from the training within or outside the applicant charity, apply.

WHAT WON'T BE CONSIDERED

Generally, we will not fund:

  • Costs incurred (or committed to) before the award of the grant
  • Bursaries that lead to a complete course of study
  • Scholarships, prizes or awards
  • Training that is required for mandatory certification or accreditation
  • Travel or accommodation costs  (except in exceptional circumstances)

APPLICATION PROCESS

Please submit applications to the Foundation at least three weeks in advance of the course start date to provide sufficient time for a review of your request.  If the application is received after the registration deadline, or if you have already registered for the course, the bursary will not be awarded.
