On June 30, 2026, the Foundation’s long-serving executive director retired after a career that has left an enduring mark on both the Foundation and Canada’s charitable sector.
Bob Wyatt’s connection to the Foundation began in 1986 when he joined the Board of Directors. In February 1989, he became the Foundation’s executive director and went on to lead the organization through decades of growth, innovation and influence. Under his leadership, the Foundation refined its funding priorities, expanded its staff and initiatives, and strengthened its commitment to building the capacity of charitable organizations throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Throughout his career, Bob championed ideas that would become hallmarks of the Foundation’s work. He helped launch the Muttart Consultations, bringing together experts and practitioners to address important issues facing the charitable sector, and supported innovative initiatives such as Edmonton 2005: A Place for All and Youth Granting for Youth. He was a passionate advocate for communities, young people and charities, always encouraging organizations to think creatively about how they could strengthen their impact.
Bob’s influence extended far beyond the Foundation. He served as co-chair of the Joint Regulatory Table of the Voluntary Sector Initiative, helping shape significant reforms to Canada’s charity law and regulatory environment. His leadership and contributions were recognized through numerous honours, including the Alberta Centennial Medal, an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Carleton University, and appointment as a Member of the Order of Canada.
The Foundation, the charitable sector and the countless individuals with whom Bob worked have benefited from his insight, vision and commitment to strengthening communities. We are grateful for his extraordinary service and wish him every happiness and success in retirement.
