The Muttart Foundation prepared a submission to the Standing Committee on Alberta’s Economic Future as part of its mandatory review of Alberta’s Lobbyists Act. In its submission, the Foundation recommends that the current exemption for charities and public benefit nonprofit organizations remain in place.

The Foundation’s submission outlines the history and rationale for the exemption, noting that it has been maintained through previous reviews of the Act and continues to provide an appropriate distinction between public benefit nonprofits and those that exist to serve management, union, professional or profit-seeking interests. The submission also highlights the administrative burden that additional reporting requirements would place on charities and nonprofits, potentially diverting resources away from their core missions and reducing their ability to serve Albertans effectively.
